Two Edies of Grey Gardens
Can't stop thinking about the Edith Beales. The other night I watched a new HBO movie called "
Grey Gardens" a real life story starring Drew Barrymore as Little Edie and Jessica Lange as Big Edith.
Back in the 1970's there was a documentary on their life at Grey Gardens in East Hampton, New York. At the time the two were living in squalid splendor in a 28 room dilapidated mansion that was once a beautiful grand beach house estate. This is the rags to riches story only in reverse, starring two simply unforgettable women.
With certain scenes of unkempt domesticity depicted in the movie still stuck in my head, over the weekend I spent every spare minute organizing the kitchen and pulling weeds in the yard with renewed determination and vigor.
